Medical Director and Chief of Staff, Kaiser Permanente
Bio
Dr. Todd Newton is the Medical Director and Chief of Staff for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group of Orange County. He leads more than 1,300 physicians providing care for 600,000 members at two Kaiser Foundation hospitals, two outpatient surgery centers, and 25 outpatient medical offices. Dr. Newton has served in many leadership roles within KP including Chief of Emergency Medicine for KP OC, SCAL Regional Chief of Emergency Medicine and Interregional Chair, Physician Director of Medical Services, and President of Professional Staff before assuming his current roles with Kaiser Permanente Orange County.
Dr. Newton is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who began his career with SCPMG at the Kaiser Lakeview facility in 2003. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he was Academic Chief Resident during his final year and won the award for Best Residency Research Project for work that subsequently became a publication on diagnostic approaches for subarachnoid hemorrhage. He is a member of the California Medical Association and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Newton received his Medical Degree from the University of California, Irvine in 2000. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he majored in Biochemistry, in 1996. He is a well-respected, compassionate clinician and leader who has an interest in mentoring young women and men from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Dr. Newton lives in San Clemente with his wife, also an Emergency Medicine physician, and his two sons. He is an avid mountain biker and is active in the community through Adventure Guides and as a youth basketball coach.
