Bio

Michael Huff is a seasoned healthcare operations leader with nearly two decades of experience across primary care, specialty services, hospital operations, and emergency care settings. Currently serving as an Area Office Administrator for Kaiser Permanente in San Diego’s South County, Michael provides strategic and operational leadership for multiple primary care sites, driving excellence in access, quality, efficiency, and staff engagement.

Throughout his career, Michael has demonstrated a strong ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams in both unionized and non-unionized environments. He is widely recognized for building highly cohesive teams, mentoring leaders, and partnering with physicians to advance clinical and operational outcomes. His leadership roles have included oversight of large clinical and administrative teams, facility operations, safety and morale initiatives, and performance improvement projects that enhanced patient and staff experience.

Michael has served in influential leadership capacities such as Practice Efficiency Lead, Men’s Health Champion, Sports Medicine Lead, and Diabetes Program Sponsor, collaborating closely with physician partners to support system-wide goals. His work has resulted in measurable improvements in workplace safety, operational efficiency, and patient access, earning him multiple organizational honors and recognition, including the Garfield Distinction Gold Award, Manager Honor Roll, and the Nurse Daisy Leadership Award.

Before transitioning fully into administrative leadership, Michael practiced as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, providing direct patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. His foundation in clinical care informs his people-centered leadership approach and commitment to high-quality, compassionate healthcare delivery.

Michael’s leadership journey began in the United States Navy, where he served in both clinical and supervisory roles, including deployment in a combat environment. There, he led medical teams, implemented electronic medical record systems, and was instrumental in improving medical readiness under challenging conditions—experience that continues to shape his disciplined, mission-driven approach to leadership.

He holds a Master of Business Administration and degrees in Health Administration, along with advanced leadership training from the University of Southern California and Kaiser Permanente Leadership University. Beyond his professional work, Michael is an active community and faith-based leader, committed to service, mentorship, and advocacy for others.
